Oration of "Peter's proposal" [manuscript], post 1891.

The collection consists of a carbon typescript of "Peter's Proposal" from "Two gentlemen of Kentucky" in "Flute and violin and other Kentucky tales" by James Lane Allen. The transcript is typed on paper with the letterhead of the Bureau of Package Libraries, Division of Extension, University of Virginia and is accompanied by a cover indicating that this is copy 3. Perhaps it was distributed through the bureau as part of a class exercise or oratorical contest? The topic is a humorous marriage proposal told in African American dialect.
